Giardini Naxos
On the east coast of the island of Sicily, below the lower slopes of the Peloritan hills is in a shaped bay positioned the town of Giardini Naxos. It lies about 50 kilometers south of Messina and 40 km north of Catania . Today's Giardini Naxos is located almost at the same location as the ancient Naxos (735 BC).

Giardini Naxos is seaside resort that is pretty famous, it is located along side of the shore from Capo Schiso that lies north west from Taormina. Town is also known as the garden town, this name comes from the cugar cane and cotton plantations that were during centuries transformed in citrus fields. For a long time this provided a great income for inhabitants of Giardini Naxos. The place developed into very important holiday resort.
It is famous for its panoramic views, small and picturesque fishing port and beautiful beaches. Beside swimming and enjoying the beaches there is plenty other things to do in the town such as visiting clubs, bars, live bands, theaters on the streets, dancing on the beaches. Town Taormina is very close to Giardini Naxos which also helps with tourism.
Historical town of Giardini Naxos
Giardini Naxos was founded by Chalcidian colonizers around 734 BC. The town is commonly claimed as the oldest Greek colony in Sicily. Theocles founded in 729 BC two other colonies of Leontinoi and Catane, those colonies lie on the south of Sicily.
Naxos was since 5th century very important town for builders like Gela and Hippocrates. Naxos lots importance and even its name in the middle ages. Giardini Naxos economic growth started in around 1870, after the railway of Messina catana was opened and this small fishing village was slowly transformed into one of the most famous tourist places in Sicily. Most famous to visit in Giardini Naxos are Schiso Castle, the small church of St. Pantaleo that lies in the Schiso' castle, Naxos Museum of Archaeology and Archaeological park that lies right next to the Museum.
Giardini Naxos and Fiumefreddo beach
One of the most famous and known beaches in Giardini Naxos is very beautiful sandy beach that lies between Capo Schiso in the south and on the northwest Capo Taormina. The beach is filled with great hotels, excellent restaurants and amazing swimming and other water activities such as snorkeling, diving and kite or wind surfing. The beach is situatd near Taormina on the waterfront and is known as one of the most elegant resorts of Sicily.
Fiumfreddo beach is also known as Marina di Cottone beach. The location of the beach is pretty dramatic, because it lies very close to the Mount Etna Park. To reach this beach you need to drive through patchwork of different fields. Beach has lot of restaurants and bars. Because of nearby location of Mount Etna the scenery is amazing but the beach is pretty crowded in high seson. Water in this beach can be pretty cold and chilly because the River of Fiumfreddo comes down from the slopes of Mount Etna and joines the sea.
