Geographically, Abaco includes a large major island known as Great Abaco, and a a large number of less significant islands, or cays. Marsh Harbour lies close to the center of Great Abaco Island, and also have a population of about 5000 inhabitants. There are perhaps an additional 4000 or so folks fragmented about the islands, giving Abaco a resident human population of less than 10.000. A large number of Abaco’s non-boating travelers fly into Marsh Harbour; Treasure Cay includes a small air-port, which also serves New Plymouth/Green Turtle Cay. This is a single-strip facility with a tiny terminal building, and several of the flights that fly used planes that have 10 seats less or more.
The island has a excellent barrier reef that protects a number of stretches of great sand beaches and turquoise crystalline waters full of dolphins and fishes. Treasure Cay is one of the world’s fishing centres. in The Marles is really a bone fisherman’s heaven. Be sure to come with a guide, as getting lost in the mangrove swamps with no GPS means you're not going back! Also there is very good deep sea fishing, as well as fishing direct from coast. The yachting marina is really a three minute hike to the villa bahamas and boats may just be rented without or with a skipper.
