Abaco is a collection of islands in the northern Bahamas. It stretches from Walker’s Cay , to Hole in the Wall, a single, stony outpost fifty miles northerly of Nassau. Being a vacation destination, Abaco has not been as popular or as well-known, at least in relation to numbers of visitors, as Nassau and Freeport.
Abaco was settled by refugees from Bermuda, colonists from England, and by colonial Loyalists for the duration of and after the American Revolution. The Bahamas was a British Crown Colony up to 1973, when it became a completely independent land.
You should to understand Abaco isn't for everyone; You are not on Miami Beach, by a long shot! There are not any high-rise luxury hotels or apartments, no malls, no formal eating rooms, no gambling sites, no limos, no discos, no freeways, no metropolitan areas, and no crowds.
Marsh Harbour is Abaco’s capital city. The area’s major hotel resort, Abaco Beach Resort, lies on the eastern side aspect of Marsh Harbour, fronting the Sea of Abaco. Adjacent is Boat Harbour Marina, the largest in Abaco and one of the largest marinas in the Bahamas. Abaco Beach Resort has Marsh Harbour’s only real beach; it is also the closest thing you’ll locate to a South Florida-style resort in Abaco. Closer to town, all along Bay Street , often known as restaurant row, you’ll find stores, accommodations, marinas, eating places, and night spots.
Marsh Harbour has wider resources than you’ll find on the overseas cays. There are many food markets, hardware stores, liquor stores, banks, yacht and maritime offer shops, even car rental agencies. You can rent a car and take pleasure in the length of Great Abaco Island, quite the adventure.
