The town of Propriano is known as an ancient fishing harbour and today as a small town tourist town with nice beaches. We went to Propriano as last area on our discovering of south Corsica.
At the end of our south Corsica tour we concluded that Propriano would be a nice origin for walking and visiting of south part of Corsica. Anyway, we traveled from Sartene about 10 km in direction to the west coast. Actually Propriano is located in the middle of Gulf of Valinco on great location with harbor and marina. Propriano is today valued by traveler and visitors who enjoy hiking in mountains and sunbathing on colorfull beaches. In high season the harbor of Propiano manage as ferries from Sardinia, and ferries from mainland of France Toulon and Marseille.
Beaches in Propriano area
If you prefer holidays on a beach, the area of Propriano is a right place. The main beach of Propriano is positioned right at the end of Gulf of Valinco. The beach is save because in high seson there are patrolles who care for sunbathers and other visitors.
Propriano town with its buzzing cafe terraces and enticing restaurants lined the harbor and marina. With its relaxed atmosphere tiny streets and view to the sea is a perfect place for lazy meal or just simply watch people and life around self. In the close vicinty of Propriano lies the beach Roc e Mar.

Ok you can reach the beach of granite boulders by boat. There right on the beach is positioned a house something like hut or paillote where you can eat in case you are not a guest of hotel. Of course around Propriano also lies other great beaches like: Plage Baie de Cupabia (12km), Sampiero Corso (1,5km), Plage deCalanca (5km), Plage du Mancinu (0,5km), Plage du Corsaire (1,5km), Olmeto plage (7km), Campomoro beach (9,1km), Plage du Lido (1km), Plage de Portigliolo (4,5km), Porto Pollo beach (10 km).
What to do in Propriano
The town was in ancient times developed as a landing place. At this place and before 2000 years here was trade position for Romans Greeks and Carthaginians. In middle Ages the town was destroyed becouse of pirates and revolt against Genoesan. In 19th and 20th century the village was an commercial port for this region, and today (thanks to all) Propriano is a popular yacht harbor with beautiful beaches and hotels. For those who likes to discover history and historical events, here (about 5 km away from Propriano) in Filitosa lies the most famous prehistoric site. The ruins in Filitosa date back to the year 2000 BC.
