What to see in Rovinj
In Rovinj you will immediately be struck by the tranquil atmosphere and you cannot leave the city without having walked down the steep paved streets on the little hill with the historic town centre and the Basilica of Sv. Euphemija or admiring the panorama from high up. Steep flights of steps and the small squares dominated by elegant Gothic and Venetian palaces, the ancient white stone houses all seem to be pieces of Venice set in a luxuriant landscape of islands and coasts. The bell tower of Sv. Euphemija, with the saint up above holding a helm and welcoming the boats arriving in the port, is an unmistakeable example of seventeenth-century Venetian style. Once you arrive in Rovinj, the destination of “royal tourism” of Central- Europe in the early 1900s, one can stay in the castle on the evocative little island of Sv. Andrija, where princess Mary of Saxe Coburg-Gotha, Stephanie of Hapsburg, and Maria Theresa of Bavaria were often the guests of Baron Hütterott. The port of Rovinj
The port of Rovinj is a landing place that is both easy and safe on the green Istrian peninsula, offering the perfect access point for its historicartistic and natural marvels, including the Lemme Channel, an amazing Mediterranean fiord, and Parenzo, a fascinating city that winds down the alleyways of its little peninsula with the charming Basilica Eufrasiana. There is no need to go too far away from the port, which is right in the historical city centre, to be enveloped by the picturesque atmosphere of this city with ancient sea traditions – from the promontory the sailor is welcomed by the soaring profile of the Cathedral of Santa Eufemia.
