What to do in Lake Bled
The area of Lake Bled's is beautiful. Bled Island has for centuries been the symbol of the area. It can be visited on one of the 'pletna'-boats.
The small island in the middle of the lake is home to the church of St. Mary of the Assumption. Traveler or tourists can reach Island on a boat called a pletna. Once on the island the visitor needs to climb ninety-nine steps to reach the church, where people frequently ring the church bell to bring them good luck. You can also swim to the island.
Walks round Lake Bled
The mild climate led to Bled developing as a health resort in the second half of the 19 century; today it is an important convention centre and tourist resort, offering a wide range of sporting activities, including golf, horseback riding and mountain biking.
Perched atop a steep cliff rising 130 metres above the glacial Lake Bled is a symbol of Bled – Bled Castle. The image of the castle forming a dramatic backdrop to the romantic island and the church on it has earned the resort worldwide recognition through the centuries. Castle terraces offer spectacular views of the lake and the island

Mountaineering
The woods of Pokljuka, Mežakla and Jelovica form the background to Bled. Furthermore the Julian
Alps and Triglav on one side, and Karavanke with Stol, Vrtaca and Begunjšcica on the other,
highlight the beauty of the background. On a clear day the Kamnik and Savinja Alps can be seen on
the east side. Around Lake Bled are plenty of mountains and Bled with his inhabitants is
proud of its rich mountaineering tradition.
Bled offers many opportunities for backpacking or hiking in the mountains. Mountains of medium height such are Jelovica , Pokljuka (Galetovec, Lipanca), Mežakla (Jerebikovec) and Karavanke (Ajdna, Roblek under Begunjšcica or Dobrca), are not only inviting but also a good testing ground for mountain tours to higher ranges. The so-called "Bled Home Mountain Trip" is a trip to the mountain Lipanca above Pokljuka where the "Mountaineering Club Bled" has its own alpine hut. Technically undemanding, yet attractive, are the trips to Begunjšcica, Stol, Debela Pec and Viševnik, whilst those to the Triglav summit require greater skills. For the latter, we recommend a guide that can be hired through several agencies. There are also plenty of maps and mountain guide literature - this can be purchased in bookshops, tourist agencies and shops, specializing in sports equipment.
