Lake Bled climate

Tourism at Lake Bled began in 1855, when Arnold Rikli, recognized the value of Bled’s
climate and its advantageous position. He organized curative treatment with sunbathing, swimming and fresh air activities. And he achieved success.
The lake is some 30 metres deep and measures about 2 km by 1 km. Even though it freezes over winter, Lake Bled is very warm in summer - the average temperature in July is 21.5°C, which makes the lake suitable for swimming.
What to do in Bled
The area of Lake Bled's is beautiful. Bled Island has for centuries been the symbol of the area. It can be visited on one of the 'pletna'-boats. The small island in the middle of the lake is home to the church of St. Mary of the Assumption. Traveler or tourists can reach Island on a traditional boat called a pletna. Once on the island the visitor needs to climb ninety-nine steps to reach the church, where people frequently ring the church bell to bring them good luck. You can also swim to the island.
