    Beaches along Vejer de la Frontera, Spain

    Centre of the town Vejer de la Frontera

    Vejer is probably one of the most georgeos Andalusias villages. It is a traditional Spanish town, buitl on a hill sourounded with national parks and farms. Town contents whitewashed houses, castles, parish church, bars, gardens, restaurants, cybercafes, library, discoteyues, cinema, it is defenetly a nice mixture of 21. century and lots of interesting history.

    Close to town only 15 minutes away by bus we can find the Atlantic coast, which offers you beautiful sandy beaches and also beach offers also activities for more adventures people such as diving and wind surfing. The most popular beach in the area of Vejer is El Palmar beach. This is the best beach known for surfing in winter time. Surfers can find here really great conditions for the best surfing on a windy day at any time of the year.Vejer De La Frontera StreetsVejer was occupied by moors in year 1250, and it has a very strong characerand by Moors with its narrow white streets, original Moorish gates, Gothic church, Moorish castle with a horseshoe gate. Recently they even discovered a true Moorish plasterwork. The town was in year 1978 declared in a national monument, it is known as the labyrith of winding cobbled streets and white washed houses. The castle in town has got medieval walls, and shows also a minaret of the old mosque. Other convents and churches has got moorish characteristics and they have mudejar and visigothic style. It is very romantic here, with picturesque courtyards filled with flowers and small plazas.

    In Vejer we can find really plenty of very good and traditional restaurants. One of them is »Plaza de los Pescaitos« or The Plaza de Espana it is known for one of the most attractive plaza and it is one of favourites places for locals and other visitors.

    Around Plaza de los Pescaitos which means Plaza of the Little fish, the name is gets place from a little goldfish that swim around the fountain outside the restaurant. The fountain was built around early 1900's. It is very beautiful decorated with bright four spouting frogs end ceramics material.

     

    Vejer de la FronteraOn the main plaza of Algeciras you can find an almost replica of this fountain here. »Ayuntamiento« the town hall is overlooking the square. You can find a traditional spanish food in Restaurante Trafalgar, which found on Plaza de Espana 31. This restaurant si popular as one of the most avant garde restaurants in this area. The dishes are all made from the local recipes and their ingredients, cooked with a modern style. Portions are superbly presented and a little bit small. The dining room of the restaurant is decorated in a style that shows modern and old, and it overlooks on the picturesque palm filled Plaza de Espana.

     The first notes of the town you can find back in prehistoric times around 700 years B. C. In 13. th century the town is occupied by Moors, they leave in town a huge influence. Right at this period of time the town reached huge blossoming. Their influence is even today strongly present. This influence shows in lots of different things such as architecture, culture heritage, gastronomy and traditional domestic art crafts. The inhabitants of the town are mostly working in tourism. We noticed smaller tradesmen workrooms, in those rooms were native people showing us how they make and manufacture a ceramics material and products of ceramics. For Moors is cheramics a very characteristic material for decoration and for building houses. You can find things that are made from cheramics all over the town. Very beautiful are also hand made knitted tapestrys.

     

    Zahara de Los Atunes beachFrom Vejer de la Frontera to the beach

    Surrounding of Vejer offers you huge amount of all sorts of beaches. Here are just few of them. Beach Los Canos lies around 15 kilometers from Vejer. This beach is very narrow and near this beach you can find also a line of stout pamls overlooks beach below and few apartments. This is a perfect family beach it is also well protected from currents and waves looking on a natural cliff. The section for the nudist is on the far end under the cliffs. There are no services through the year.

    Beach Zhara de los Atunes lies around 18 kilometers from Vejer. This massive stretch beach of white sand is the longest beach in this place. One half of the beach in property of the Ministry of Dfence. They have got services around the Zahara area section. There could be some strong winds, but you can find a good protection from winds at the Atlanterra end. Trafalgar Bay is another nice beach it lies 14 kilometers from Vejer.

    Beach near imposing Trafalgar lighthouse are overlooked to that lighthouse. Here are two beaches that are really famous one of them is the »Playa Trafalgar« which is very well protected from dangerous currents while another beach »Almas« is very exposed to risky currents. There are no residential development around and no services through all year in this area.

    El Palmar is another beautiful beach - (10 km from Vejer). This beach is the closest family, with golden sand. The centre area has a few unintrusive houses and restaurants. But in the north and southen is area unaccessible by car only the cows graze here overlooking the dunes. Beach is a perfect place for walking, surfing or just lazing because its empty most of the year. It is an exposed beach and mostly affected by powerful winds. A few restaurants on this beach are open most of the year and all services are available mostly at high season.
