Dali museo in Figueres
Imagine while exploring art
Coast of Costa Brava - Spain is a great origin for exploring inland of this part of Spain. We went to Figueras from Tosa de Mar. The traffic in the center was pretty heavy, park places full, so we parked a bit from the cetre. Walking towards old part of Figueras was easy, we just followed arrows to the Salvador Dali museum. Trying to find building with eggs on the roof was on some way funny.
The museum is great. We enjoyed it because first; Dali's stuff is extraordinary and second; its pictures and instalations are an interactive experience and not only a collection of artwork. We spent a few hours there, taking in all of the famous works.
The Salvador Dali Museum was built on the remains of the former theatre in Figuere. It contents extensive range of works of Dalis artistic career (1904-1989), from his earliest artistic works and surrealist paintings down to the arts of works of the last years of his life.
The most unique and outstanding creations on exhibition are: The girl of Figueras (1926), Port Alguer (1924), Napoleons Nose, Basket of Bread ( 1945), Galarina (1844), The Spectre of Sex Appeal (1932), Poetry of America-The Cosmic Athletes (1943), Soft Self-Portrait with Fried Bacon (1941). Here in Figueras Museum is also set of works that Dali has created specially for the Theatre-Museum, for example the Monument to Francesc Pujols, the Mae West Room, the Rainy Cadillac and the Wind Palace Room. In the museum you can also admire other artists that Dali wated to include.
The building of the Theatre in Figueras was created by the architect Roca i Bros and it was built between 1849 and 1850 unfortunately it was destroyed by a fire of the Spanish Civil War in 1939.
The ceiling of the auditorium was totally destroyed and had fallen in, only the access corridors remained, and of the stage only the lateral storerooms and the prosecenium arch survived.
The foyer and vestibule were the only places that remaind safe and itact
One of the most discernible components of the museum is the transparent grid structure in the shape of a geodesic dome on the top of thebuilding, an idea by Salvador Dali, this idea was realised by the Murcian arhitect Emilio Perez Pinero. The dome has become a symbol and emblem for the town of Figueras. There in the Museum are up to 1.500 pieces of works. The Museum contains a wide collections of works, from his first artistic works – Futurism, Impressionism Cubism, there are also some of his Surrealist creations. Some of the most important work to see here is Self-Portrait with I ‘Humanite’ (1923),
