Racisce village and bay
Racisce Korcula is a small village and bay around 12 kilometers from Korcula town. There (aprox 1 km north) is also a small beach named Vaja beach.
On the northern coast of teh island there is located a bay with Racisce village. This settlement is about 12 kilometers away from Korcula main town, it has around 420 inhabitants who are mainly working in tourism, seafaring and fishing. Dating from 1682 there is also a small church. St. Nicolas parish church is a present church and it was built in the late 19th century.
Vaja bay, Racisce Korcula
Vaja Bay Around 1 km north of the village of Racisce there is a beautiful beach in the Vaja Bay. This white pebbles small beach surrounded with amazing azure sea water is really a true experience for every traveler.
This rarely visited and isolated place is a romantic and picturesque eye candy. Well known buildings abroad and in Croatia were built of this solid stone called stone quarry.
If you want to visit Vaja Bay and its beach you can start from Racisce harbor and just go by tarmac road that leads from this harbor. Taking the path down and walking up the hill there is a cliff to the beach and the right path to this beautiful bay. Vaja beach is also recomended to be approachable by the sea.
A small fishermen's place Kneza interesting traces of roman mosaics were discovered. In Zrnovska Banja the traces of roman buildings were found. Beautiful beaches with several bays can be found near this region.
Račišće village is also one of the youngest villages on the Korcula island. At the end of 17th century it started to get inhabited. The refugees from Herzegovina and Makarska inhabited this village at the beginning of the 18th century during the Turkish Venetian wars. Kneža and Račišće are offering many restaurants with delicious Dalmatian food
Surrounding of Racisce village
Samograd and Vaja have beautiful natural beaches and are very close to Racisce just a little bit on the west side. Maritime way of life is very typical for Racisce village.
People of this village accepted very quickly this style of life. From the end of the 19th century until 1950 a lot of people of Racisce village were the owners of the biggest island fleet of sailing boats and cargo. In nowdays men of Racisce are often ordinary fishermen or officers in modern ships.
