Where is Smokvica village located
Smokvica is located in the foothills of Mala obala and Vela, it is located right in the very center of teh island.
This is the place where Korcula island shows all the beauty of the nature she posses. Planted vineyards, deep valleys, soaring hills, narrow winding lanes together with stone houses, endless olive groves.
This is all the magic and charm that makes this area of Croatian Dalmatia so attractive and beautiful.

Since prehistoric times, humans have lived in Smokvica which makes the town one of the five oldest villages on the island. 14th century St. Michael's church is considered as one of the most important monuments of Smokvica.
In the past the church was built on a heavily fortified rocky butte. Church survived many battles mostly with the Ottoman Turks. Knight's Sword Dance and the Kumpanjija were created by their guards.
They are still perfoming those dances just like moreska. From July 27th to August 4th you cant miss Smokvica's Posip Days and on the 15th of August they have in Brna bay the Traditional Brna Festival. On this festival you can see donkey races and lots of amusement with rope pulling event.
In Smokvica produce one of famous white wines named Posip. They also produce high quality olive oil which is the worldfamous.
Another delicious food of Smokvica is a delicious Smokvica Princes, a think shelled almost which is very deliccate and it grows every Spring.
Next to famous Posip wine dont forget to try Prosek a desert wine made from dried Posip grapes and Rukatac a classy dry white wine. Dishes and food here are focused on the fresh. You can try amazing seafood, octopus, squids, fish, grilled or cooked crabs in risotto, served with different vegetables most known is blitva (similar to chard-swiss) then they mix blitva with potatoes. Cabbage, cherry tomatoes, beans and gruda (edible herbs all mixed together). All seasoned with olive oil and fresh herbs.
Smokvica's wine makers - tradition from ancient time
From the ancient times inhabitants of Smokvica were wine makers, wine growers, farmers and also shipbuilderss, stone masoners and fishermen.
On all Croatian wine maps/charts Chroatia is a top destination. They even have a monument that is built in honour to their wine Posip and his finder on Pincalusa.
Smokvica nowdays is charming for its historical and cultural sites, its beautiful nature that you can explore it with cycling, walks. They have plenty of bike patsh that lead to the local restaurants and local wineries where you can try all the new wines and great Dalmatian food in their local restaurants, cafes and bars.
